Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 In Studio 5000, check the module's channel fault status — identifies exactly which point has the fault
  2. 2 Check the field wiring at the faulted terminal — tug test all wires gently
  3. 3 For analog inputs, measure the signal at the terminal with a multimeter — 4-20mA should be present
  4. 4 For digital inputs, verify 24VDC is present at the input terminal when the field device is active
  5. 5 Check if the point fault is configured to cause a module fault — can be changed per channel in module properties
  6. 6 If channel is damaged, the entire module must be replaced — individual channels are not field-replaceable

Field Trick

1734 POINT I/O terminal base and module are separate pieces. When troubleshooting, you can swap just the module onto a known-good terminal base to rule out the base. Bases rarely fail, but corroded base contacts from a panel flood will cause random point faults.
