Allen-Bradley CR30 Safety Relay Fault

AB-CR30-FAULT

440C-CR30 configurable safety relay has faulted. All safety outputs are de-energized. The CR30 monitors E-stops, guard doors, light curtains, and safety mats in a single configurable unit.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Check CR30 LED indicators — the LED pattern identifies which input channel or condition caused the fault
  2. 2 Verify all E-stop buttons are released and guard doors are closed — walk the entire machine
  3. 3 Check the external contactor feedback wiring to the CR30 feedback input — contactor aux contact must close when contactor energizes
  4. 4 Measure 24VDC power supply to CR30 — must be between 19.2V and 28.8V
  5. 5 If configuration lost, use Connected Components Workbench (CCW) to re-download the safety configuration
  6. 6 Press the CR30 reset button (if configured for manual reset) after all inputs are in safe state
  7. 7 If output relay fault, the CR30 may need replacement — internal relay contacts are safety-rated and not field serviceable

Field Trick

The CR30 LED indicator codes are printed on a label on the side of the unit. Red blinking patterns correspond to specific fault channels. Count the blinks to identify which input caused the fault — saves time versus connecting CCW software.
