PowerFlex VFD Fault F004 — Undervoltage

AB-PF-F004

PowerFlex drive DC bus voltage dropped below the minimum threshold. Drive cannot sustain motor operation. Typically caused by incoming power sag or loss.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Measure incoming AC voltage at drive input terminals — should be within drive rating (typically 200-240V or 380-480V +/-10%)
  2. 2 Check all three phases at drive input — loss of one phase will cause undervoltage
  3. 3 Inspect drive input fuses if equipped — replace any blown fuses with correct rating
  4. 4 Check wire connections at drive input terminals and upstream breaker — tighten all
  5. 5 If voltage sags are intermittent, check if another large motor starts at the same time — consider adding line reactor
  6. 6 Reset drive fault after confirming stable input voltage — monitor DC bus voltage parameter during operation

Field Trick

PowerFlex drives log the DC bus voltage at the time of fault. Check parameter 'DC Bus Voltage' or the fault log — if the bus voltage is close to the trip point (typically 60% of nominal), the incoming power is marginal and you may need a line reactor or power conditioning.
