PowerFlex VFD Fault — Parameter Error / Factory Reset Needed

AB-PF-PARAM

PowerFlex drive reports parameter error, EEPROM fault, or parameters are at factory defaults after unexpected reset. Drive configuration is lost or corrupted.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Check if a parameter backup exists — look for a .pf525 or .pf527 parameter file saved during commissioning
  2. 2 If backup available, download parameters using Connected Components Workbench (CCW) or DriveExplorer
  3. 3 If no backup, retrieve parameter sheet from the original commissioning documents or integrator
  4. 4 At minimum, reprogram: Motor NP Volts (A089), Motor NP Hz (A090), Motor NP Amps (A091), Accel Time (A091), Decel Time (A092)
  5. 5 Set communication parameters to match the PLC configuration — IP address, EtherNet/IP assembly instances
  6. 6 After reprogramming, do Parameter A099 = 2 (Save to EEPROM) to lock in the new parameters
  7. 7 Test motor operation at low speed before running at full speed — verify rotation direction and speed reference source

Field Trick

Always keep a backup of every drive's parameters. Save a .pf525 file after commissioning and store it in the panel door pocket or on the plant's engineering PC. A drive swap goes from a 2-hour emergency to a 15-minute swap when parameters are backed up.

Suggested Replacement Parts
