Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Identify the faulted module — in RSLogix 5000, expand I/O Configuration tree, look for yellow triangle icons
  2. 2 Reseat the faulted module — remove and re-insert firmly until retention clips engage
  3. 3 Check module status LEDs — green=OK, red=fault, off=no power or dead module
  4. 4 If remote rack, check Ethernet cable between EN2T adapters — verify link LEDs on both ends
  5. 5 Compare module firmware rev to controller firmware — update if mismatch per Rockwell compatibility matrix
  6. 6 Inhibit the module in RSLogix if it needs replacement — this allows rest of program to run
  7. 7 After replacing module, download I/O configuration and verify module identity matches project

Field Trick

In the Controller Organizer, right-click the faulted module and select Properties > Connection. The 'Last Connection Error' field tells you the exact CIP error code. 16#0203 = module not there. 16#0204 = wrong module type.
