CONV-CHAIN-BRK

Chain break sensor or zero-speed switch detected that the chain has broken or the tail shaft has stopped rotating while the drive motor is running.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 STOP the drive immediately — running a broken chain causes secondary damage to sprockets, guides, and product
  2. 2 Lock out / tag out the conveyor drive before entering the conveyor
  3. 3 Locate the break point — inspect for sheared pins, cracked plates, or separated master links
  4. 4 Remove damaged chain sections — pull chain out through the maintenance access
  5. 5 Do NOT splice a broken chain — replace the entire chain strand
  6. 6 Inspect sprockets for damage from the broken chain — replace any with chipped or bent teeth
  7. 7 Check the zero-speed sensor and wiring — verify it would have caught the failure sooner if properly calibrated

Field Trick

After a chain break, always find BOTH ends of the chain before restarting. A loose chain end wrapped around a shaft or sprocket can cause catastrophic damage when you restart. Walk the entire conveyor and account for every inch of the broken chain.
