Conveyor Bearing Temperature Alarm

CONV-TEMP1

Bearing temperature monitoring system detected excessive temperature on a conveyor bearing. Temperature exceeded alarm threshold, indicating bearing wear or lubrication failure.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Check bearing temperature with IR gun — compare to opposite side bearing for baseline
  2. 2 Grease the bearing with correct type and amount — do NOT over-grease, follow manufacturer schedule
  3. 3 Listen for bearing noise — rumbling, clicking, or high-pitched whine indicates failure modes
  4. 4 Check shaft alignment with straightedge or laser alignment tool — correct if needed
  5. 5 If bearing temp continues to rise after greasing, plan for bearing replacement at next maintenance window
  6. 6 When replacing bearing, inspect shaft for wear — a worn shaft will destroy the new bearing quickly

Field Trick

Over-greasing bearings kills more bearings than under-greasing. When you pump grease into a sealed bearing, the excess has nowhere to go — it builds pressure, pushes past the seal, and overheats the bearing. Follow the OEM schedule: usually 2-3 pumps of the grease gun, NOT a full cartridge.
