440C-CR30 EtherNet/IP Communication Fault

CR30-COMM-ERR

The CR30 EtherNet/IP safety connection to the GuardLogix or CompactGuardLogix controller has been lost or timed out. CIP Safety communication interrupted. Safety outputs may be de-energized depending on the configured connection timeout behavior.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Check the CR30 NET LED — solid green is normal, flashing green is connected/active, red is fault
  2. 2 Ping the CR30 IP address from the engineering PC — confirm network connectivity
  3. 3 Check the Ethernet cable and RJ45 connector at the CR30 — inspect for damage and reseat
  4. 4 In RSLogix 5000, check the I/O tree for the CR30 module — look for connection faulted status
  5. 5 Verify the CR30 IP address matches what is configured in the GuardLogix I/O module definition
  6. 6 Check for IP address conflict using the Rockwell BOOTP/DHCP server tool
  7. 7 If switch port, swap to a known-good port and retest
  8. 8 After resolving network issue, reset the safety fault in GuardLogix

Field Trick

If the CR30 NET LED is green but GuardLogix still shows a connection fault, check for an IP conflict first. Two devices with the same IP on the same subnet causes sporadic comm faults that are hard to trace.
